Water Pump – MX-5 NA6 1.6 3D Cast Impeller

A highest quality replacement water pump for the Mazda MX-5 NA 1.6, featuring a proper 3D cast impeller rather than the simple stamped sheet-metal impeller commonly found on replacement pumps today.

Cast-impeller pumps for the NA6 have become surprisingly difficult to find. While some suppliers have concluded that they are simply no longer available, we kept looking and managed to source them.

Why a 3D Cast Impeller?

The impeller is at the heart of the water pump. Instead of thin stamped sheet-metal vanes, this pump uses a rigid, three-dimensional cast impeller with properly formed blades.

This gives you:

We're not going to claim that every stamped impeller is bad — good stamped water pumps certainly exist. But given the choice, this is the type of pump we want to install in our own engines.

Replace It With the Timing Belt

The MX-5 water pump is located behind the timing belt, so replacing it while carrying out a timing belt service makes a lot of sense. Our Gates racing timing belt kit is amazing piece of kit and we highly recommend to use this kit.

The additional work is relatively small while everything is already apart, whereas replacing a failed or leaking pump later means going back into the same area again.

We particularly recommend considering replacement if the history or age of the existing water pump is unknown.
