If you’ve ever removed bushings from an MX-5, you know how frustrating it can be. When I did my suspension bushings more than 10 years ago, the experience of fighting with heat, flames, and generic pullers stuck in my mind. That’s why I designed a simple, durable tool to make the job easy.
Made from stainless steel, the tool combines a strong welded tube body with a CNC laser-cut plate that securely holds the nut in place. This integrated nut pocket means you don’t need a second set of hands or extra tools to stop the nut spinning. Even if the nut eventually wears out, you can replace it cheaply and keep using the tool.
Each kit comes supplied with a long high-tensile bolt and nut — everything you need to start pressing bushings out right away.
All you need is a 17 mm socket and ratchet (or an impact gun for speed), and the job becomes straightforward.
Key Features:
-
Designed for all MX-5 NA, NB, NBFL suspension bushings
-
Stainless steel construction – tube body TIG welded to a thick laser-cut washer
-
Integrated CNC-cut nut pocket – no slipping, no need to hold the nut
-
Supplied with a long high-tensile bolt and nut
-
Works with a 17 mm socket/ratchet or impact gun
-
Built tough – you’ll never need another puller for MX-5 bushings
How to Use:
-
Insert the supplied bolt with washer through the bushing hole.
-
Spray threads with oil or lubricant.
-
Slide the tool onto the opposite side, hole facing the bushing.
-
Tighten the nut until it sits in the tool’s integrated pocket.
-
Check alignment – tool centered on arm/knuckle.
-
Tighten the bolt until the bushing presses out.
-
Repeat for all bushings.
Pro Tip – Prepare Before Installing New Bushings
Once the bushings are out, many arms and knuckles will show rust or surface damage inside the bores. Installing new bushings (or spherical bearings) into a rough bore can be a struggle.
That’s why we recommend:
-
Flexible honing tool (optional) – attaches to a drill to clean rust and imperfections.
-
Epoxy rust converter – (optional) 25 ml bottle - enough for a full MX-5 suspension set of bores. it doesn’t just neutralize rust – it creates a durable epoxy film that seals and protects the metal. This compact black layer is long-lasting and acts as a perfect base coat. Additional painting is optional, not required.
This combination makes installation smoother and ensures your fresh bushings last longer.
